Can I use TiVo in an apartment building that splits its satellite signal?

I've been scanning the TiVo web site but can't find the answer. I don't have my own receiver because the signal is split all over the building or something. I believe it's DirecTV. I just have a cable cord that plugs into the jack in the wall and into my tv. Thanks!
