How to keep the bugs at bay on my deck?

okay so i moved into a new place with a terrific deck. I have it all set up with comfy chairs, pretty flowers, etc. it is really great. BUT it was dark in the evening, so i hung some simple outdoor string lights around the perimeter, and it was perfect, it really created a nice look and I could see! BUT now all kinds of tiny bugs are swarming around the lights, so I traded one problem for another! Does anyone know how I can keep the bugs at bay?
